Sprouting of Oaks - T73
Sprouting of Oaks - T73 - In the 1830's Congress authorized the purchase of land on which to grow Live Oak trees to be used for shipbuilding. Before long however, steel replaced wood as the material of choice, and the trees remained uncut. These trees are some descendants of those original trees, and are located in the Naval Live Oak section of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
